About
Paul Baguley

Opening

I’ve spent the last fifteen years getting UK businesses found in Google. Before that, I spent five building the websites.

That order matters. I didn’t come to SEO from marketing — I came to it from development, which means when I tell you something on your site is broken, I can usually tell you exactly why, and often fix it myself.

How I got here

I started out in web development in 2005, building sites and ecommerce stores for businesses across the Midlands. What I kept noticing was that a good website wasn’t enough. Clients would launch something they were proud of, and then nothing would happen. No traffic, no enquiries, no return on what they’d just spent.

So I started learning how search actually worked. By 2011 I’d moved into SEO full-time, and I’ve been doing it ever since — through every major algorithm update, every shift in how Google reads a page, and every fashion in the industry that came and went.

In 2013 I founded Internet Sales Drive, a digital marketing agency here in Nottingham, which I still run. Along the way I picked up Google Ads and Google Analytics certifications and worked across paid search, content, and reputation management. But SEO is where I’ve always done my best work.

Agency or freelancer?

Fair question, and the honest answer is both.

I run Internet Sales Drive, a small digital agency in Nottingham. Paul Baguley Digital is how I work with clients directly on SEO — no account managers, no hand-offs, no junior doing the work while a senior name sits on the invoice.

Some businesses genuinely need a full agency team across multiple channels. If that’s you, I’ll say so. But most small and mid-sized businesses just need one experienced person who knows what they’re doing and answers the phone. That’s what this is.

What I’m good at

I’m strongest on the technical side. Crawlability, site structure, page speed, indexation — the things that quietly stop a site ranking no matter how much content you publish. My development background means I can diagnose problems that a purely marketing-trained consultant would need to escalate to a developer.

I also do a lot of work on local SEO — Google Business Profile, local pack visibility, citations — particularly for businesses in and around Nottingham, where I’m based and where my agency has worked for over a decade.

And I’m good at explaining it. If you’ve ever sat in a meeting where an agency talked at you for an hour and you left with no idea what you’d just agreed to, that’s the thing I try hardest not to do.

What I don’t do

Working with me directly means SEO. If you need paid search, social, or a broader campaign, that’s a conversation about my agency rather than this — and sometimes the right answer is neither.

I also won’t take on work I don’t think will pay off. If SEO isn’t the right answer for your business right now, I’ll tell you. Shorter conversation, more useful one.

Recognition

I was one of 101 digital marketing specialists featured in Digital Marketers Sound Off, a book collecting tools, tactics and predictions from practitioners across the industry.

How I work

Direct access. You deal with me. Not an account manager, not a junior, not a rotating team.

Monthly rolling. No twelve-month lock-ins. If the work isn’t delivering, you shouldn’t be contractually stuck paying for it.

Plain English. Reports that tell you what changed, why it matters, and what’s next — not forty pages of charts you’ll never open.

However suits you. Email, phone, WhatsApp, Slack. I’ll fit around how you already work.
